Georgia football defensive back arrested on felony drug charges, speeding
A Georgia football defensive back who transferred in this offseason was arrested on felony drug charges and speeding last week.
Georgia football defensive back Ja'Marley Riddle was arrested last Friday, May 8, in Glynn County on two felony drug possession charges after being pulled over for speeding. Riddle was arrested by Glynn County Police and charged with possession of marijuana of more than one ounce, possession of a schedule 1 controlled substance and the speeding charge, according to the Glynn County Sherrif’s Office. Riddle posted bonds totaling $16,526 and was released the same day, according to a release from the Glynn County Detention Center.
The arrest was first reported by WGIG 98. 7 FM in Brunswick. “We are aware of the charges are actively gathering additional information,” Georgia athletics said in a statement to the Athens Banner-Herald on Friday May 14.
“As this is an ongoing legal matter, we will not be providing further comment at this time. ” Riddle transferred to Georgia from East Carolina this winter. He was limited this spring due to a leg injury, but had 2 tackles and 2 pass breakups in the G-Day spring game.
Details of his arrest were not immediately available on Friday, but WGIG reported that an undercover Glynn County police officer saw a red Dodge Durango traveling nearly 100 miles per hour around mile marker 44 on I-95 and radioed ahead to uniformed police who made a stop. “During the conversation with the driver, who seemed very nervous, a strong smell of marijuana was detected by the officer,” the station reported. “After being granted the opportunity to search the vehicle, officers discovered a bag filled with a number of packets of leafy substance labeled ‘marijuana’ as well as a number of vapes labeled ‘THC’.
