Penn State among top three schools for 3 star Texas CB

Penn State football is making a strong push for three-star Texas cornerback Dillon McGhee, who has the Nittany Lions in his final three.

While the Nittany Lions have certainly made gains on the recruiting trail, one positions has especially been one of intrigue for the Blue and White as they continue to retool the squad: that of cornerback. With former interim head coach Terry Smith now leading the charge to sign new members of the secondary, Penn State is well positioned to have an elite defensive backfield during Campbell's tenure. It could become even better if a three star corner from Texas chooses to go to Happy Valley.

Yesterday, Dillon McGhee , a corner out of Texas, declared his final three schools to be SMU , Texas , and Penn State. While it currently seems as if he will stay in state with the Mustangs, there are visits coming up for McGhee with the Nittany Lions that could end up swaying his prediction. An in-home visit with Smith on May 4 could have been the reason that McGhee included Penn State in his final three amongst home state schools with greater chances of signing him.

To make matters even more positive, McGhee has a scheduled official visit with the Nittany Lions on June 12, which comes a week after an SMU visit, but before his visit with the Longhorns. As the No. 66 recruit in the state of Texas, this would continue a positive stretch for the Nittany Lions as they look to pry away talent from other Power 4 conferences that are further south.

The team already received a commitment from running back Aiden Gibson out of South Carolina. McGhee could be yet another stepping stone into that recruiting world. This article originally appeared on Nittany Lions Wire: Penn State among top three schools for 3 star Texas CB
