Gina Carano: Rousey an armbar genius, but I can be pretty savvy myself
Gina Carano knows what she has to watch out for against Ronda Rousey.
VENICE, CALIFORNIA – Gina Carano knows what she has to watch out for against Ronda Rousey . Carano (7-1) returns to the cage for the first time since 2009 when she takes on former UFC bantamweight champion Rousey (12-2) in Saturday's MVP MMA 1 (Netflix) main event at Intuit Dome in Inglewood, Calif. Rousey has made a career out of the armbar submission, where she finished nine of her 12 professional wins with her signature move.
"We know what Ronda is good at – she's a genius at (it)," Carano told MMA Junkie during Wednesday's open workout scrum. "So we definitely trained accordingly, and that's what I could give you. I can be pretty savvy myself, though, so let's just keep that in mind.
" Carano is a big underdog against the Olympic bronze medalist judoka, but is considered to have a major advantage on the feet. Carano was undefeated until she faced Cris Cyborg for the inaugural Strikeforce featherweight title, and hasn't competed since. "It would be nice to keep it on the feet, but I'm ready for anything," Carano said.
"We trained for everything, and yeah, I'm going to keep it savvy. " This article originally appeared on MMA Junkie: Gina Carano 'going to keep it savvy' vs. Ronda Rousey at MVP MMA 1
