The San Diego Padres have been having a fairly productive season so far, as they sit atop the NL West above the Los Angeles Dodgers in the middle of May. Maason Miller and the rest of the pitching staff have been a huge help in getting to this point, as the offense has lagged behind a bit this season. The obvious struggling hitter has been Fernando Tatis Jr.

to break out of slump right now "Inexplicably, the Padres are alone in first place in the NL West without his help, albeit with a year-to-date run differential of +1 (and a 6-1 record against the Rockies) that suggests they're going to need much more out of Tatis moving forward," Miller writes. While the Padres have an impressive 25-17 record on the season, they've scored just 177 runs and allowed 174, slightly improving their run differential to +3. But the +63 run differential Dodgers will almost assuredly pass the Padres if they cannot begin slugging more this season.
