Official: Real Madrid call elections – all the key dates and details Real Madrid have announced presidential elections, as confirmed by the club following the procedure established under Article 38 of their statutes. This comes a couple of days after current president Florentino Perez announced his intention to call another elections three years ahead of time. Potential candidates have ten calendar days, until Saturday 23 May, to submit their candidacies.

Any candidate must meet strict requirements, including at least 20 years of membership at the club and presenting a financial guarantee worth 15% of the club’s budget. At present, that figure is estimated at around €187 million backed by a bank guarantee. No later than the day after each candidacy is submitted, the Electoral Board will review the documentation and officially validate candidates who meet all requirements.

If only one candidacy is accepted, the Electoral Board will proclaim that candidate and their board elected automatically. That scenario would likely see Florentino Perez confirmed again on Sunday 24 May. If two or more candidacies are approved, club members will be called to vote.

The club must announce the voting date within 15 days after the final candidacy is accepted. Under current projections, the vote would take place on 7 June, provided another candidate, such as Enrique Riquelme , formally enters the race alongside Florentino Perez. Should voting be required, the newly elected president would already be in office by the time Pope Leo XIV visits the Santiago Bernabéu during his trip to Spain.

Official election timetable 14 May to 23 May 2026: Submission period for presidential candidacies. One day after each submission: Review and official proclamation of candidacies by the Electoral Board. Appeals process: Appeals against accepted or rejected candidacies may be filed within two calendar days of notification.
