But things haven’t quite worked out for Slot and Liverpool this season, as the team’s performances and results have been dismal in 2025-26.
Despite their struggles, the Reds are on the cusp of securing a place in next season’s Champions League. The club supporters, however, are seemingly not happy with their head coach, as they made their feelings known during Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea at Anfield. Slot was booed by the home fans after he brought off youngster Rio Ngumoha in the second-half.
There are currently no indications the club’s hierarchy are planning to part company with the Dutch boss. But managers don’t generally last long once they lose the faith of their own supporters. Liverpool should appoint Xabi Alonso Alonso’s stint at Real Madrid wasn’t a success.
He lasted less than a year at the Santiago Bernabeu after signing a three-year contract last summer. Despite the failure, the Spaniard’s stocks remain high, as Chelsea have put him at the top of their shortlist to replace Liam Rosenior as head coach. We believe Liverpool should act quickly to win the race for Alonso.
