Guhner Kimber of Grantsville High connects for a base hit against Carbon High during a winners bracket game in the 3A State Baseball Championships at Lindquist Field in Ogden, Tuesday, May 12, 2026. | Brian Nicholson Grantsville 10, Carbon 6 Wednesday saw another down-to-the-wire contest between Grantsville and Carbon after the Dinos dominated Logan in the one-loss bracket with a 26-13 victory to force another showdown against the Cowboys. Once again, Carbon held a four-run lead over the Cowboys, but couldn’t hold on as Grantsville put together another big rally for a thrilling 10-6 come-from-behind victory to advance to the 3A championship game against Union.

“I’m grateful for the win, but I’d appreciate not having to come from behind next time,” said Grantsville head coach Trevor Thornton with a smile. “That was another barn burner — and give Carbon a lot of credit. They have a great team and can really hit the ball.

We knew we had to play our best and I’m super proud of our guys for being resilient and digging down deep again and making big plays to win the game. ” Grantsville got off to a quick 2-0 lead in the top of the first and looked to avoid needing a comeback win as Jordan Fawson got on base with a single, stole second and then Payton Cummings — who had a game-high five RBIs on the day — brought him in with an RBI for a 1-0 lead. Jaxxon Jensen then stepped into the box and hit a towering solo shot over the left field wall to push the lead to 2-0.

“I was waiting on that pitch,” Jensen said. “I knew they were going to throw me a curveball and I’m glad I made the most of it. ” Grantsville could have added several more runs with the bases loaded, but Carbon was able to get out of the jam to limit the damage.

The Dinos quickly tied things up in the bottom of the inning as Cash Withers got on base with a hit up the middle and then Maddux Willson smashed a two-run homer over the left field wall to tie things up at 2-2. Carbon then took its largest lead of the game in the bottom of the fourth, scoring four runs to take a 6-2 lead. After several walks, Jackson Bosone got things going with two RBIs on a single to left field.
