Giants Offense Stalls in Loss to Dodgers
The San Francisco Giants suffered a 4-0 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers due to an uneven performance from Robbie Ray.
For the third matchup of this four-game series, the San Francisco Giants turned to one of their most reliable starters, Robbie Ray, to face the rival Los Angeles Dodgers . While Ray did not provide the length that the Giants hoped for, the veteran left-hander battled through a difficult outing against one of baseball’s deepest lineups in a 4-0 loss at Dodger Stadium. Ray pitched 4 2/3 innings, allowing seven hits, four runs (three earned), walked two, and struck out two.
He also surrendered a pair of home runs and threw 95 pitches, 56 of them landing for strikes. Although the Dodgers consistently generated hard contact, limiting the damage to four runs against such an explosive lineup prevented the game from completely getting out of hand early. The lack of swing-and-miss stuff proved to be one of the biggest issues for Ray throughout the night.
His two-strikeout performance reflected the challenges he faced locating consistently in key counts, especially against a Dodgers lineup that rarely gives opposing pitchers a break. Nearly every at-bat carried pressure, and the Dodgers capitalized whenever Ray fell behind in the count. Giants' Offense Struggles Against Ohtani Offensively, the Giants could not solve Shohei Ohtani, who delivered another dominant performance on the mound for Los Angeles.
Ohtani tossed seven scoreless innings, allowing just four hits and two walks while striking out eight. The outing further strengthened what has already become an impressive Cy Young-caliber campaign as he lowered his ERA to 0. 82 on the season.
