The Steelers are very familiar with new Falcons head coach Kevin Stefanski, as he was the head coach of the Cleveland Browns from 2020-25. The Falcons sport a new quarterback in Tua Tagovailoa, who was released by the Miami Dolphins after a poor 2025 season.

This is the third time since 2010 that the Steelers and Falcons are facing off in Week 1, the most recent of which came in 2024 when the Steelers won 18-16 off the strength of six Chris Boswell field goals. The last time these two teams faced off in Week 1 was in 2010, when Rashard Mendenhall iced the 15-9 win in overtime with a 50-yard touchdown run. The Falcons have never defeated the Steelers in Pittsburgh.
