BOYS TENNIS: Doubles teams reach semifinals of District 2 Championships
Abington Heights tennis players continued to dominate District 2 this season as both of the program’s doubles teams reached the Class 3A semifinals on Wednesday. William Arp and teammate Liam Farrell, the top-seeded pairing, will play No. 5 Sean Rooney and Spencer Young of Crestwood.
The Abington Heights brother team of Brady Comstock and Bryce Comstock, the No. 2 seed, will face Valley View’s duo of Nick Burak and Billy Giovagnoli in the other semifinal. In Class 2A, Holy Cross’ top-seeded team of Alex Harrison and Ray Zhang reached the semifinals and will play Frank Klimovitz and Daniel Dudrick of Holy Redeemer.
Wyoming Seminary’s team of Stefan Zecar and Dhru Sudhakar will play Dallas’ team of Nate Linnen and Theo Barr, the No. 6 seed. Semifinal matches will be played on Thursday at noon at the Birchwood Racquet Club.
The Class 3A matches were at Wilkes University, with Abington Heights’ team of Arp and Farrell winning a pair of matches in straight sets, losing only one game. The Comets defeated Delaware Valley’s Ben Ben Krules-Koi Desandis, 6-1, 6-0, and then earned a win over Wilkes-Barre Area’s Robert Fuentes and Josiah Angel, 6-0, 6-0, in the quarterfinals. Brady and Bryce Comstock were equally overpowering.
The Comets’ second-seeded team defeated Delaware Valley’s Eli Wilson and Jackson Hazard, 6-0, 6-0, then beat Scranton’s Veer Patel and Yax Patel, 6-0, 6-1. Crestwood’s team of Rossi and Young won a grueling three-set match with Valley View’s team of Kevin O’Shea and Cooper Rawlings, 6-4, 4-6, 9-7. The teammates then defeated West Scranton’s Matthew D’Augostine and Aaron Castro, the No.
