Gophers’ Isabella McCauley advances to NCAA golf championships
Gophers senior women’s golfer Isabella McCauley advanced to the NCAA Division I championships after finishing fourth in the Ann Arbor, Mich. regional on Wednesday. Minnesota’s Luisamariana Mesones also competed, finishing 23rd with a 219 for a plus-6.
She ended her junior season with a 4-over 75 in the final round. “Mariana capped off a great year here in Ann Arbor,” Gophers coach Matt Higgins said in a release. “I’m really proud of her and I know she is super motivated going into next year.
” McCauley posted a 2-under 69 on Wednesday, finishing the regional with a 3-under 210. She advances to the championships on May 22-27 as one of the top two individuals not on advancing teams. The championships will be at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, Calif.
“Bella played practically flawless golf the last two days,” Higgins said in the release. “This is the third championship in four years for her. I know she is really excited to get back to La Costa and represent the Gophers.
