Reds' Brady Singer survives injury scare, expects to make next start
Cincinnati Reds veteran starter Brady Singer took a line drive off his foot Tuesday, eventually exited because of it but said he won't miss any time.
For all the bad injury news the Cincinnati Reds have experienced with their pitching staff so far this season, they might have finally escaped an injured-list move with the latest scare. Veteran right-hander Brady Singer , who got drilled just below his right ankle by a shot back to the mound Tuesday night, said he fared so well overnight that he expects to make his next scheduled start without issue, Sunday in Cleveland,. “When I woke up it was a little sore, but now it’s looser,” said Singer, who participated in a full complement of pregame work Wednesday.
“I think the swelling was the biggest concern, but we got a lot of it out (Tuesday) night. It feels a lot better today. ” The Reds already were operating at enough of a rotation deficit that they signed struggling veteran Chris Paddack – who’d been released by the Marlins – to join the rotation Saturday.
The Singer prognosis was big for a team with three key starters on the injured list and prospect Chase Petty – who looked good in a spot start last week – dealing with a blister this week. “We’ll obviously keep an eye on (Singer) as we progress,” manager Terry Francona said. “I think there was some expectation he might come in a little worse.
We’re hopeful. ” Singer stayed in the game after being struck on the outside of the foot by a line drive in the second inning. But he had trouble pushing off the mound after that, was less effective and eventually left the game with two outs in the fourth.
