Yankees say Giancarlo Stanton 'not any worse' but return still unclear

BALTIMORE - Giancarlo Stanton is still dealing with the effects of a strained right calf, with no clear estimate of when the slugging DH will return to the Yankees’ lineup. A comparison MRI taken earlier this week showed that his injury was “not any worse,’’ said manager Aaron Boone. But there’s not enough progress to advance his rehab to running.
“He’s upped what he’s been able to do, but I don’t think it allows us to clear him to really start ramping up the running yet,’’ Boone said after the Yanks’ 7-0 loss to the Orioles, who limited them to one hit – a Jazz Chisholm Jr. double. Stanton was injured in a play on the bases at Houston, April 24, and has been on the 10-day injury list retroactive to April 25.
Jasson Dominguez came up from Class AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to replace Stanton on the active roster. Last week, Dominguez crashed into the outfield wall at Yankee Stadium and suffered a left shoulder injury, leading to the call-up of power hitting prospect Spencer Jones. Over his first five MLB games, Jones is 1-for-12 with an RBI single and three walks.
