Raiders add strong competition at nose tackle with veteran signing

Yahoo Sports

The Raiders have made their first veteran addition at the nose tackle position, adding an instant strong competitor for the job.

It is less than a week until the Raiders report for OTA's. And just in time for that, they have added some much-needed competition at nose tackle. Wednesday Las Vegas signed DT Benito Jones.

The veteran defensive lineman has started 38 games over the past three seasons in Miami and Detroit. The 6-1, 335-pounder has 83 careere tackles and 10 tackles for loss in 71 career game appearances. He enters a wide open position battle to get the bulk of the snaps at nose tackle for the Raiders.

That battle figures to be between second-year DT JJ Pegues, rookies Brandon Cleveland and Gary Smith III, and IPP player Laki Tasi. Increasing the likelihood that whoever comes out of it as the starter will have earned it, rather than just being selected for lack of decent options.
