Patriots rookie Quintayvious Hutchins pleaded not guilty Wednesday to misdemeanor assault and battery on a family/household member.

New England Patriots rookie linebacker Quintayvious Hutchins was charged Wednesday, May 13, with misdemeanor assault and battery on a family/household member, according to Newton, Massachusetts, court documents. Hutchins pleaded not guilty at his arraignment in Newton, Massachussetts, and was released on his own recognizance. The alleged incident took place on Tuesday, May 12, according to court documents.

Per multiple reports, Boston College police said a resident advisor in one of the dormitories told them Hutchins grabbed a woman by the neck. The woman, however, later told police nothing had happened and that she did not want to receive further assistance. "We are aware of the report involving Quintayvious Hutchins," the Patriots said in a statement, according to ESPN .

"We take these matters very seriously and are in the process of gathering additional information. " A seventh-round pick out of Boston College, Hutchins signed his four-year rookie contract with the Patriots on May 9. He left the team's rookie minicamp that same day with an undisclosed injury.
