Real Madrid legend Fernando Morientes believes star striker Kylian Mbappe deserves more support, with the Frenchman having faced heavy criticism despite his eye-watering goal-scoring record

Even without the injured Lamine Yamal, Barcelona's 2-0 victory over Real Madrid in El Clásico was enough to secure them a second straight La Liga title. The win means the Blaugrana are now 29-time champions, and winning this latest crown against their greatest and most fierce rivals is the cherry on top.

Mbappe, who is targeting a second FIFA World Cup title with France this summer, was not in the squad for El Clásico. The 27-year-old is managing a hamstring injury, while he was at the heart of a training ground incident between the forward and Madrid's coaching team in the build-up to the draw with Real Betis last month, as per The Mirror US . He is largely seen as one of the best players in the world and has amassed a remarkable 41 goals in 41 appearances across the 2025-26 season. And yet, he still faces critics; a petition to oust him from Madrid has reached over 73 million signatures. Morientes is definitely surprised.

As a former Madrid striker himself who scored 100 goals for Los Blancos, the Spaniard understands the pressure of leading the charge for one of the biggest and most successful clubs in the global soccer. "In a team like Real Madrid, which is the best in the world, you usually mark individual goals and collective goals. I think that Mbappe's individual goals are more than met," Morientes told The Mirror U.
