The Cleveland Guardians have routinely been a solid team in recent years, but there has been a limit to how far this team can actually go due to one issue.
That issue is very obviously the team's payroll. Without the ability to spend so lavishly on top-tier stars that hit the open market, the ceiling of this Guardians team is capped every year. So, with the trade rumors on 240-homer slugger Rafael Devers beginning to heat up with the struggles of the San Francisco Giants , it should come as no surprise what Bleacher Report's Zachary D.
Rymer called out as the Guardians' odds to swing a deal for Devers. "The Guardians just got Patrick Bailey in a trade with the Giants, but he's no real cure for their perpetually light-hitting offense," Rymer writes. "Since they can't even bring themselves to spend $100 million on payroll, this just isn't happening.
" As has been the case for some time now, the Guardians are not going to break open the bank to spend big on the roster. Devers, who's in the middle of a $313. 5 million deal, is very much an unrealistic trade target for Cleveland.
