An NFL Writer recently revealed his uncertainty for Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice’s chances for a contract extension | @EdEastonJr

The Athletic’s Jesse Newell recently revealed his belief that Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice has more to prove before being considered for a contract extension. “Rice is in the last year of his rookie deal, and he has a lot to prove this season,” Newell Wrote . “He struggled with drops and availability a year ago, and he also needs to prove he can go a calendar year without ending up in negative offseason headlines.

” Rice has appeared in 12 games over the past two seasons, with his 2025 campaign severely affected by injury and missing six contests due to suspension. The games he did play were effective, finishing the year with 53 catches for 571 yards and five touchdowns, averaging 10. 8 yards per reception.

The former SMU standout holds the NFL record for most playoff receptions by a rookie with 26 in 2023. Since being selected in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft, Rice has shown flashes of perennial Pro Bowl ability when available. Kansas City’s wide receiver depth chart enters the 2026 season with Rice, Xavier Worthy, Tyquan Thornton, Jalen Royals, and draft pick Cyrus Allen.
