Guiu and Delap transfer moves could change Chelsea’s development plan for young award winner Shim Mheuka’s future is a talking point after the young striker won the PL2 player of the season award. Chelsea’s spending this summer is going to be limited by a few factors.

One is that the club aren’t going to be in the Champions League, and could miss out on Europe altogether. Another is their ongoing settlement agreement with UEFA, and their general need to comply with FFP and PSR limits. Plus there’s the fact they’ve already got two players on the way – Geovany Quenda and Emmanuel Emegha.

That committed spend also has to be taken into account for what summer moves are actually feasible. Chelsea striker setup could have full revamp Emegha’s arrival means there’s less likely to be another striker addition – and Shim Mheuka could benefit. If Marc Guiu and Liam Delap are moved out on loan or permanently, Mheuka could be in prime position to be third choice striker behind Emegha and Joao Pedro.

It’s an interesting alternative to loan the youngster out. There should be no shortage of interest now he’s secured the PL2 player of the year award. But if Mheuka stays Emegha struggles with injury or form next year, our academy product could be closer to the first team than anyone expects.
