Antonian softball run-rules St. Pius X to advance to TAPPS state tournament

Analicia Guerrero tossed a one-hitter and the Apaches' bats came alive as they beat St. Pius X in the TAPPS softball state quarterfinals.

Analicia Guerrero is a senior pitcher for Antonian. (Antonian Softball) Patience at the plate led to a big day for Antonian in the TAPPS Division I state quarterfinals against Houston St. Pius X on Monday.

Antonian (24-9) pounded out 10 hits, including solid performances at the plate from Alejandra Santoyo, Analicia Guerrero and Trinity Silva, in an 11-1 rout of St. Pius X in five innings at Antonian High School softball field. "We had a plan coming in because we've faced that pitcher (Kennedy Flenner of St.

Pius X) four years now," Antonian coach Johnny Villanueva said. "She's a great pitcher. Hats off to her, but we understand what's she's trying to accomplish and we're able to stay off the high stuff, and we were able to hit the pitch we were looking for.

" Antonian advances to the TAPPS state tournament for the fifth straight year. The Apaches play the winner between Houston St. Agnes and crosstown rival Incarnate Word in the semifinals Monday at Allan Saxe Field in Arlington.
