A reasonable expectation.

Mets’ David Stearns expected to be fired if New York misses playoffs originally appeared on The Sporting News . Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here . Guys definitely have to be on the hot seat in Major League Baseball, whether the New York Mets front office and ownership group want to admit that or not.

The Mets just haven't been the type of team they were expected to be over the first few months of the season, and if it continues, there will have to be major changes. The biggest one seems to be a firing of Carlos Mendoza, though there has also been some speculation that David Stearns could be fired. Despite that reality, SNY doesn't believe Stearns will get fired anytime this season.

On the flip side, if he can't make the playoffs and doesn't fix what's broken at the trade deadline by moving on from players, the expectation is that he won't return. “All of which is to say, I think Cohen gives Stearns a chance to fix this between now and the end of the season. If they miss the playoffs, I do not think he will get more chances beyond that,” Chelsea Janes of SNY wrote .

It would be interesting to get rid of somebody like Stearns, as I can definitely see him going to a new organization and finding a lot of success. Things obviously haven't worked out in New York, though, which is what we're worried about here.
