What will the Mets do?
Mets could still make trades to improve at deadline, but it all depends on Steve Cohen originally appeared on The Sporting News . Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here . The New York Mets have to be worried about how the year has looked, and considering everything the organization has said this year, there's definitely a feeling of frustration.
That frustration needs to be tamed at the trade deadline, however, as the Mets can't just make moves just to do things. The biggest thing at the trade deadline is having a plan. Whether that plan is to move on from guys, try to improve the farm system, or look to get better in the immediate future, as long as everybody is on the same page, there's really nothing to be too worried about.
According to SNY, that will be one of the biggest questions the Mets have to answer at this deadline. โStill, the first thing I would do is go to Cohen and say, do you want me to try to save this season at any cost, or do you want me to operate with an eye toward the future. โIf he says the former, I would take advantage of my financial flexibility and pursue a major trade for a big contract that might bring in a new veteran presence and might also bring in some kind of bullpen help or starting depth if I shouldered enough of the money,โ Chelsea Janes of SNY wrote .
There's again not really going to be any right or wrong answer in moments like this. The Mets are either going to do what they have to do and improve things for the future, or not do what's needed and continue to struggle right now and in the next few seasons. These moves will have a significant impact on what happens, but it's important that we let it play out a bit before offering our thoughts.
