” During his six-year tenure, the 76ers never advanced past the second round of the playoffs. Joel Embiid set an NBA record by losing in the second round in his last six playoff appearances, including the pre-Morey Era. The 76ers did come back from a 3-1 deficit in the first round to beat the No.
2 seed Boston Celtics. Morey joined the 76ers on November 2, 2020, and the team had a 270-212 record in the regular season (28-26 in postseason) during his tenure. Bob Myers, President of Sports for Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment (HBSE), will lead the process of identifying a new leader of basketball operations and oversee the department in the interim.
“I have a tremendous amount of respect for Daryl personally and professionally, and I’m grateful for his contributions over the last six seasons,” 76ers Managing Partner Josh Harris said in a statement. “After speaking with Daryl, we determined that it was time for a fresh start. Bob Myers will lead the process of identifying a new leader and I believe his experience in constructing four NBA championship teams will be a valuable resource to our organization.
