Daryl Morey and the Philadelphia 76ers will part ways after 6 seasons as the team's President of Basketball Operations.

The Philadelphia 76ers have made their first big move of the offseason as they have decided to part ways with Daryl Morey after he served as the team's President of Basketball Operations for six seasons. Morey first took over in the 2020-21 season after the Sixers were swept out of the bubble by the Boston Celtics. He made a flurry of moves in the truncated 2020 offseason to set the team up for success in that season, but Philadelphia was never able to make it out of Round 2 of the playoffs.

Things got a bit rocky in the 2025-26 season when Joel Embiid pleaded with the team to add at the deadline. Instead, Philadelphia only moved Jared McCain and got draft picks in return. There was a moment in early April as well when Embiid called Morey out by name when asked why he was ruled out of an April 1 matchup against the Washington Wizards .

Head coach Nick Nurse will continue in his role into a fourth season with the 76ers, sources tell ESPN. Four-time NBA championship architect Bob Myers, the president of sports for Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment, will be tasked to lead the search for the new head executiveโ€ฆ https://t. co/w3EWCTtAKe โ€” Shams Charania (@ShamsCharania) May 12, 2026 Coach Nick Nurse appears set to enter his fourth season as the team's head coach while Bob Myers will lead the search for Morey's replacement in the front office.
