With that in mind, here are our selections for the football players who defined Friday Night Lights in the southern half of the Golden State. The 16 players (listed in alphabetical order) were all standouts in the high school gridiron before playing at the next level.

Marcus Allen, RB, Lincoln A two-way star, Allen, really showed off his talents in his final high school game, the state championship game, when he accounted for five total touchdowns and finished with 195 rushing yards.
One of those scores was even an interception returned for a touchdown. He was named the 1977 Cal-Hi Sports Mr. Football.
