Vikings want to interview George Paton's assistant GM for their GM opening

Yahoo Sports

The Denver Post reports that the Vikings are set to interview Broncos assistant GM Reed Burckhardt for their GM opening.

The Minnesota Vikings weren't able to poach general manager George Paton from the Denver Broncos this offseason, but they might be able to land the team's assistant GM. The Broncos gave Paton a new, five-year contract last week following rumors that the Vikings were interested in bringing Paton back to fill their GM opening. Minnesota has now requested an interview with Denver's assistant GM, Reed Burckhardt, according to a report from the Denver Post 's Luca Evans .

The Broncos will grant the Vikings' request. Burckhardt was promoted to assistant GM last year after Darren Mougey left to take the GM job with the New York Jets . If Minnesota ends up hiring Burckhardt, Denver will have lost an assistant GM in consecutive years.

The Broncos originally hired Burckhardt in 2022, initially as a director of player personnel. Before landing in Denver, Burckhardt spent 13 seasons with the Vikings, overlapping with Paton's tenure in Minnesota (2007-2020). Burckhardt is now a candidate to return to the Vikings.
