Frankfort, Moorefield, East Hardy win playoff openers; Hampshire loses

SHORT GAP, W. Va. — Frankfort opened the Class AA, Region II playoffs in the win column, fending off a rally by South Harrison to win 13-11 on Monday.

The Falcons (19-10) saw their six-run lead whittled to two in the seventh, but Sydney Robosson induced a groundout with the tying run at the plate. Frankfort broke a 7-7 tie with a four-run fifth, adding two insurance runs in the sixth. Jocolyn Hurley was 2 for 2 with a triple and three RBIs, Jordan-Marie Owens tripled and scored four times, Elizabeth Crowe doubled, Robosson had two hits and two ribbies, and Riley Lynch and Dayahna Imes each had two singles.

Robosson was the winning arm, allowing four unearned runs in three innings of relief. Peyton Kimble pitched the first four frames. Emily Squires and Tori Nicholson both doubled for South Harrison (8-16).

Frankfort is at Petersburg (22-4) in a regional winner's bracket game on Tuesday at 6 p. m. West Virginia regional tournaments follow a double-elimination format.

Moorefield 30, Berkeley Springs 1 MOOREFIELD, W. Va. — Moorefield racked up 21 hits and took advantage of 10 Berkeley Springs errors and seven walks to roll in five innings Monday in the Class AA, Region II playoffs.
