Can’t Stop Won’t Stop: Porter Martone is Headed to World Championships
James Guillory-Imagn Images James Guillory-Imagn Images Flyers rookie Porter Martone just does not stop. The 19-year-old just finished his first partial season in the NHL, completing 9 regular-season games and 10 in the playoffs. This came fresh off of his NCAA freshman season at Michigan State, with a trip to the 2026 World Juniors Championships in the middle.
After a long year of tough, high-level competition, Martone is not done. At Tuesday’s exit interviews, Martone revealed that he is heading to the 2026 IIHF Men’s World Championships, getting another chance to represent Canada this season. Martone said he never really thought about taking a break.
It was a no-brainer to go to Worlds. “I love playing this game. It’s tough to take me off the ice, and you know it’s tough to turn down a chance to represent your country.
And it’s always a huge honor whenever you get asked. So you know, I’m really excited; it should be a fun time. ” This will be Martone’s second trip to the men’s World Championships.
In the months leading up to the draft, he joined Canada for their training camp and played in two games. It’s where he first met Travis Konecny, Travis Sanheim, and Tyson Foerster. So, Martone earned a bronze medal at the World Juniors, made it to the NCAA Tournament before being eliminated at Regionals with Michigan State, had a 2nd-round appearance in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and now the World Championships.
