Penn State's Levi Haines dominates at Pan Ams

Yahoo Sports

Penn State's Levi Haines won a gold medal at the Pan American Championships, only giving up two points.

The reason why Penn State wrestling isn't just viewed as a dominant program is because of the continued success of its wrestlers outside the confines of collegiate competition. That's why at the Pan American Championships in Coralville, Iowa, one of Penn State's best and brightest wrestlers was able to capture gold. Levi Haines competed in the 79-kilogram category and shockingly, only gave up two total points across his championship run.

It was Haines' first-ever gold medal in the competition and one of two for the US throughout the competition. NC State's Trent Hidlay was the other winner in the 92 kg freestyle. This win for Haines comes after a dominant collegiate season that saw him go undefeated with a sterling 26-0 record.

To top it all off, it also came with his fourth Big Ten title and second win in the NCAAs. For Penn State wrestling, this continues an incredible postseason run as several more wrestlers are competing for spots in the World Team Trials and eventually the World Championships, perhaps wrestling's greatest stage. However, the program has something to savor with Haines' dominant gold medal win.
