Yankees calling up shortstop Anthony Volpe to make 2026 debut
The Yankees are calling up shortstop Anthony Volpe following a stint at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Anthony Volpeย is back in the big leagues. According to multiple reports, the Yankees are calling up the 25-year-old shortstop. After undergoing offseason shoulder surgery, Volpe began his 2026 campaign on a rehab assignment.
But when that rehab assignment came to an end, he was optioned to Triple-A instead of being called up to join the big league club. But with Jose Caballero injuring his right middle finger on Sunday against Milwaukee, the Yanks needed a shortstop, and Volpe was the obvious answer. The latest update on Caballero was that he was returning to New York after Monday's game to visit team doctors.
