Analyst projects immediate NFL role for Jake Slaughter with Chargers
ESPN NFL analyst Field Yates believes former Florida center Jake Slaughter could see snaps at guard for the Los Angeles Chargers this season.
After being selected in the second round of the 2026 NFL Draft, former Florida center Jake Slaughter could find himself stepping into an immediate role with the Los Angeles Chargers . ESPN analyst Field Yates believes the multiple-time All-American and Rimington Award finalist could shift to guard at the professional level despite playing center exclusively at the collegiate level. Yates projects Slaughter as an early option for Jim Harbaugh and the Chargers at guard.
The organization signed Tyler Biadasz in free agency to address its need at the center position this offseason. Given the early-round investment, Los Angeles can maximize the upside of its offensive line by giving Slaughter a chance to start right away. Slaughter played more than 2,000 snaps over the course of his career with the Gators.
The 6-foot-4-inch, 303-pound three-year starter built a reputation for consistency, toughness and on-field leadership. The projected transition for Slaughter highlights the value of a versatile interior lineman at the NFL level. Mastering adaptability in the league is key to charting a long and productive career.
With the Gators' first two picks coming from the offensive and defensive line, development along the trenches has become a staple of Florida's program.
