Michigan basketball announces matchups for 2026-27 Big Ten slate
Michigan's Big Ten opponents have been announced for the Wolverines' title defense season.
The dates are still to be determined, but Michigan basketball now knows which Big Ten teams it will play and where. The Big Ten announced its 2026-27 league matchups and the Wolverines , like all league teams, have three teams they will play twice. Michigan State and Ohio State are now both protected rivalries, which means they will both meet home and away, while the third team U-M will see twice as it looks to defend both its Big Ten title and national championship is Minnesota.
The highlight of the schedule is probably the Wolverines' West Coast trip in Southern California, where Michigan will look to stay perfect away from home against the four newest Big Ten teams (currently 4-0) when it faces USC and UCLA. U-M will also make a return to Bloomington for a reunion with coach Dusty May's alma mater, Indiana, as well as matchups at Penn State, Rutgers, Nebraska and Wisconsin, the lone Big Ten team to beat Michigan last year. The home games, in addition to MSU, OSU and Minnesota, for the Wolverines are Illinois, Iowa, Maryland, Northwestern, Oregon, Purdue and Northwestern.
Michigan went 12-0 against those teams in 2025-26. Michigan comes off of a historic Big Ten performance in 2025-26, as it went 19-1 in the conference and won the league by four games. Perhaps the most impressive feat was that U-M went a perfect 10-0 in road games, the first Big Ten team to go unblemished away from home in the conference since Indiana 50 years prior in 1975-76.
Both teams went on to win the national championship. Tony Garcia is the Michigan beat writer for the Detroit Free Press. Email him at apgarcia@freepress.
