New Mexico saw enough from Eric Olen in one season to give him a contract extension.

The Lobos came up a little bit short of the NCAA tournament in Eric Olen's first season with New Mexico, but the school has seen enough to trust the head coach moving forward. Olen agreed to a new five-year deal with the program, the school announced Monday. The Lobos went 26-11 during the 2025-26 campaign.

"This past year has been an amazing experience for me and my family,” said Olen. “It’s an honor to lead this program and walking down the ramp on game day is something I will never take for granted. The support from this community and passion of our fan base make the University of New Mexico a truly special place.

I appreciate everyone that helped make year one so memorable and I’m excited to build on that foundation. Thank you to Ryan Berryman, President Stokes and the entire administration for their confidence in our staff. We will continue to work every day to make Lobo Nation proud.

” Before taking the New Mexico job, Olen spent five seasons as head coach at UC San Diego. He compiled an 81-63 record during his stint with the Tritons. The extension adds an additional season to the agreement Olen initially signed, and has base compensation increases built in for the third, fourth and fifth years of the deal.
