We may never know why Sean McVay was ‘grumpy’ on draft night
One of the great mysteries of the 2026 NFL Draft remains a mystery

A.
selected Ty Simpson as the 13th overall pick, it was McVay’s appearance and reaction that became the story as much as the selection. Was McVay upset about the Simpson pick? Was McVay downplaying his excitement to assure Matthew Stafford from afar that he was/is still L.
A. ’s quarterback? What events occurred that led to McVay presenting a different body language than we are used to seeing from the generally giddy and optimistic head coach?
According to Chris Simms , McVay was angry about a “volatile” situation that had occurred as there was some sort of disagreement, “argument” , or an interaction that led to McVay expressing what appeared to be discomfort and/or agitation the night of Round 1. You can see the quote from Simms below, but I am not sure it clears up this mystery, in fact, it may further fuel the already set fire as it’s still not clear what set McVay off. Said Simms through NBC Sports: “The reason he in the press conference was pissed off had neither to do with him acting or the pick but had to do with some sort of volatile situation that happened before they went out there,” Simms said.
