Los Angeles Dodgers trade for Ariz. Diamondbacks outfielder Alek Thomas
Veteran outfielder Alek Thomas hit . 181 over 28 appearances this season for the Arizona Diamondbacks. File Photo by Ian Halperin/UPI May 12 (UPI) -- The Los Angeles Dodgers acquired outfielder Alek Thomas through a trade with the Arizona Diamondbacks, the MLB franchises announced Tuesday.
The Dodgers agreed to send outfield prospect Jose Requena to the Diamondbacks in the trade. Thomas, 26, hit . 181 with nine doubles, two home runs, 10 RBIs and four stolen bases through 28 appearances this season.
The Diamondbacks designated Thomas for assignment Friday. The second-round pick in the 2018 MLB Draft hit a career-high . 249 with 19 doubles, three triples, nine home runs, 38 RBIs and seven stolen bases over 143 appearances last season.
He has a career . 230 average through the first five seasons of his MLB career. Thomas signed a one-year, $1.
9 million contract with the Diamondbacks in January, avoiding arbitration. The Dodgers signed Requena, who turned 17 in December, to a minor league contract in January. He has yet to make his professional debut.
