District 3 Boys Track and Field: Berks has 12 top seeds; a look at each event in 3A and 2A

Berks athletes head to the District 3 Boys Track and Field Championships this weekend with 12 top seeds, including five for Oley Valley in Class 2A. The two-day meet starts Friday at Shippensburg University and concludes Saturday. In Class 3A, the top five finishers advance to the PIAA Championships the following weekend at Shippensburg.

In 2A, the top two finishers advance. Competitors who do not automatically qualify can advance if they better the state qualifying standard in the district meet. Oley Valley’s top seeds are Ryan Gourley (3,200), Aspen Freed (110 hurdles) and Jacob Mackie (pole vault) in individual events.

The Lynx are the top seed in the 4 x 400 and 4 x 800 relays. Here is a look at each event in each class: Class 3A 100: If Wilson senior Jaiden Carpenter is going to be the District 3 sprint king this spring, it will start with the 100. He’s the second seed behind Ephrata senior Wright Young, but their seed times, 10.

64 to 10. 67, point to a race that could be decided right at the finish line. 200: Carpenter, a West Chester commit, is the top seed here with Daniel Boone junior Cameron Cremi fourth-seeded at 21.

70. Carpenter won the 100 and 200 in last week’s BCIAA championships. 400: Three of the top five times are Berks runners, with Twin Valley senior Ben Grundy second at 48.
