Dodgers Acquire Alek Thomas in Trade With Diamondbacks – Who got DFA’d? Who got Traded?
The Dodgers made another roster move Tuesday, acquiring outfielder Alek Thomas from the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for minor league outfielder Jose Requena. To make room on the roster, Los Angeles designated outfielder Michael Siani for assignment. This is not the type of move that is going to shake up the National League West on its own, but it is exactly the type of move the Dodgers have made for years: identify a talented player whose value is down, acquire him at a reasonable cost, and see if their system can unlock something.
Thomas, 26, was once one of the more highly regarded young players in Arizona’s organization. The left-handed hitting outfielder was selected in the second round of the 2018 MLB Draft and reached the big leagues with the Diamondbacks in 2022. His best tools have always been his athleticism, speed, and ability to handle center field.
The question has been the bat. This season in 28 Games with Arizona: . 181 batting average 2 Home Runs 4 Stolen Bases .

At worst, he gives the Dodgers more outfield depth.
At best, the organization finds something in his swing and turns him into a useful piece for a team with World Series expectations. This move also does not feel like a direct threat to Andy Pages, who has earned a much bigger role because of his offensive production. Thomas will have to hit his way into more playing time.
