Sesame Street Muppets set to join World Cup coverage with Fox Sports

Elmo, Big Bird and friends will be part of Fox Sports' World Cup coverage as part of an agreement with Sesame Street.

The 2026 World Cup will be watched all over the United States, and one of the host country's most famous blocks will be no exception. The World Cup is coming to Sesame Street. Or, perhaps, Sesame Street is coming to the World Cup.

The beloved children's show is collaborating with U. S. rightsholder Fox Sports in an effort to educate fans about the tournament and bring in younger fans.

"We couldn’t be more excited to be working with one of the most adored children’s franchises in the world for FIFA World Cup 2026," Fox Sports Vice President of Production Zac Kenworthy said in a news release. "By collaborating with Sesame Street, we’re adding a fun and educational element that brings families together around the Fox Sports viewing experience. Among the familiar Muppets who will appear are Elmo, the Cookie Monster, Big Bird and The Count, who will have a stats-focused segment. Oscar the Grouch will host "Trash Talk", which Fox describes as "a satirical highlight show featuring 'grouchy' moments on-and-off pitch. " Grover will also be featured in a segment in which the Muppet interacts with Fox Sports broadcasters to better understand how a World Cup match is called on television.
