Elly De La Cruz, Reds not talking extension right now, says Jim Bowden
As The Enquirer reported Monday, May 11 , Reds shortstop Elly De La Cruz had dinner with his agent Scott Boras. The menu at Jeff Ruby's read, "Welcome back to Cincinnati, Scott Boras! " De La Cruz, 24, makes $800,000 on his current contract and is under Cincinnati Reds control until 2029 and not arbitration-eligible until 2027.
Earlier this year, he rejected a contract extension. Tuesday, May 12, former Reds general manager Jim Bowden reached out to Reds president of baseball operations Nick Krall and asked if they had engaged in extension talks. "Not at this time," Krall replied.
Bowden, now an MLB analyst and insider for CBS Sports, posted the interaction on X. Agent Scott Boras had dinner with his client Elly De La Cruz last night at Jeff Ruby's restaurant in Cincinnati which made me reach out to #Reds Prez Nick Krall to see if they reingaged in ext talks... he replied "Not at this time" fwiw.
