Broncos coach Sean Payton: 2 healthy QBs enough for OTAs
The Broncos discussed adding a 4th QB, but haven't thus far ahead of OTAs. "Generally with those practices, two is not a problem," Sean Payton said.
While speaking at rookie minicamp over the weekend, Denver Broncos coach Sean Payton provided a positive update on quarterback Bo Nix (ankle), who is on track to be full-speed ahead of training camp this summer. Nix could be limited or held out during organized team activities (OTAs) in early June, but Payton downplayed the possibility of potentially signing a fourth quarterback for OTAs. Denver hosted two tryout quarterbacks (rookie E.
J. Warner and veteran Nathan Peterman) at rookie minicamp, but neither of them was signed. "We’ll discuss that," Payton said when asked on Saturday if the team will consider signing a fourth QB.
"It means, look, we have 90 [roster spots], so it is possible you can bring someone back in on a trial basis for the [June] minicamp. Yet, generally with those practices, two [quarterbacks] is not a problem. "It would be more of an issue if you felt a player was going to be a PUP in training camp, and that’s not going to be the case [with Nix].
I’m not saying we couldn’t sign an additional quarterback. We’ve discussed it, but really more in terms of, ‘Do we see something in these two guys? ’" It's still possible that one of Warner or Peterman (or somebody else) could be signed closer to OTAs or minicamp in June , but for now, the Broncos are going forward with Jarrett Stidham and Sam Ehlinger as their two healthy QBs.
