New York Giants turned down multiple picks to select Colton Hood at No. 37
The New York Giants rejected a trio of picks to stay and select CB Colton Hood at No. 37 overall in the 2026 NFL draft.
During the 2026 NFL draft, the New York Giants demonstrated a strong belief in cornerback Colton Hood by selecting him with the 37th overall pick, despite receiving attractive trade-down offers. Giants general manager Joe Schoen shared these details in the team's Giants Life draft video, offering fans a rare behind-the-scenes glimpse into the war room. "As we headed into Day 2, we're talking through different scenarios.
It's an opportunity to acquire more draft picks," Schoen said. "Colton Hood was our top guy on the board going into Day 2. If he was there, we were going to turn the card in.
If not, we had a few options to move back in the second round and acquire more picks. " The franchise received proposals from the Cincinnati Bengals and New Orleans Saints that would have allowed it to fall back to the 41st or 42nd pick. Those deals promised two fourth-round selections and a fifth-round pick in compensation.
Separately, the Detroit Lions offered the 118th, 128th, and 157th picks to slide back to No. 50. "When we got to pick 37 and Colton Hood was there, it was an easy decision for us," Schoen said.
