Where Texas A&M stands with 5-star OT before his commitment date

Texas A&M remains in great position to land 2027 5-star OT Mark Matthews, who is set to announce his commitment on Friday.

Texas A&M's 2027 recruiting class still holds the No. 1-ranking with 12 commits, including a nation-high four five-star prospects, and for third-year O-line coach Adam Cushing, landing early commitments from four-star tackles DaMarrion Johnson and Kaeden Scott led to a massive commitment from five-star IOL Kennedy Brown late last month. However, after receiving a prediction from On3's Steve Wiltfong last month to land five-star tackle Mark Matthews , the Florida native will reportedly announce his commitment earlier than expected, announcing that he will choose between LSU, Miami, Georgia, and Texas A&M on Friday, May 15.

This is surprising given that Matthews stated earlier this month that he planned to take all of his official visits before announcing his commitment. As we know, recruiting decisions change on a dime, and Matthews is close to making what could be his final decision before Early Signing Day. As things stand, Wiltfong stated late last month that the Aggies are in a prime position to land the blue-chip tackle.

"Matthews loves the trajectory of the program, has great relationships with several staffers, players on the team and Texas A&M commits and top targets in the 2027 cycle. He feels very comfortable with the SEC program and thatโ€™s why the Aggies are in pole position. " Fellow On3/AggieYell recruiting experts Jaxson Callaway and Joseph Hastings all placed their predictions for Texas A&M to land Matthews, and while the Miami Hurricanes will continue to be a threat going into the summer, this announcement is that much more important.
