Portsmouth girls tennis rolling along as regular season winding down
"I'm so proud of our team up and down the ladder who continue to work hard and improve each day," Portsmouth girls tennis head coach Wendy Poutre.
PORTSMOUTH - It's been quite the start to the season for the Portsmouth High School girls tennis team as the Clippers are tied with Timberlane for second place in Division II with identical records of 9-1. Aside from an 8-1 win at Bow on Monday, May 11, Portsmouth has recorded all 9-0 wins. Portsmouth's lone loss was to the reigning Division II state champions and still undefeated Souhegan, 5-4, in Portsmouth's second game of the season on April 8.
"I'm so proud of our team up and down the ladder who continue to work hard and improve each day," Portsmouth head coach Wendy Poutre said. "Our captains, Avery (Porter) and Elyse (White), along with our other seniors, really set the tone. " Portsmouth reached the Division II championship game last season, and fell to Souhegan, 5-4.
The goal is to get back to the championship match this season, and change the result. "We've definitely been off to a strong start," Portsmouth senior and No. 1 Avery Porter said.
"I think everyone on this team has grown a lot, and we're just really having fun. A lot of us our seniors, and we're really taking in every game, every win and every loss. We had a really good game with Souhegan, and we know we definitely have some tough matches coming up, but we know we're going to put everything into it.
