Here's a chance for readers to weigh in and select their top high school sports team from the 2025-26 season in an open poll.

As the high school sports season is winding down with the State Track and Field meets this week, along with the State soccer finals and state baseball semifinals, we decided to take a look back at a memorable year on the prep scene in the Greater Savannah area. In football, Benedictine and Calvary Day reached the GHSA state finals. Benedictine staged a valiant comeback , but lost to Creekside in a 42-39 battle.

The Cavaliers came back in a 28-21 setback against Hebron Christian. Bethesda Academy won a SCISA state football crown as the Blazers capped an undefeated season with a dominant victory over Pee Dee Academy. The Jenkins flag football team became the first public school team from the Greater Savannah area to reach the state finals.

The Warriors battled nationally-ranked Greenbrier to the end in an excellent game. The Savannah Arts girls cross country team won its second consecutive Class 2A state crown and third in the last four years. South Effingham's wrestling team also won another state championship , taking the Class 5A Traditional State tournament title.

The Memorial Day girls basketball team won the first girls state championshi p in school history. And in spring sports, the Islands and Savannah Arts boys soccer teams are competing for state titles this week, while the Benedictine baseball team hosts North Oconee in the state semifinals. The Richmond Hill boys and girls track teams are also competing for state crowns, while the Wildcat boys and girls golf teams will also be in the hunt for titles.
