Are the Mets dealing Peralta?

Conflicting reports raises questions about whether Mets are trading Freddy Peralta to Cubs originally appeared on The Sporting News . Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here . The Chicago Cubs are expected to be one of the more active teams at the Major League Baseball trade deadline, though I definitely want to see Jed Hoyer prove that before I give him any grace.

Hoyer has had opportunities to make some very good decisions over the past few years and, unfortunately, at the trade deadline, just hasn't done so. This has a different feeling to it, however, so I'm really hoping he does what's right. Despite reports that the Cubs were interested in New York Mets starter Freddy Peralta, Bruce Levine recently walked back those claims, adding that while the Cubs have talked about adding a starter, they haven't specifically spoken with the Mets about Peralta.

"According to industry sources, the Cubs are one of the teams the Mets have talked to about acquiring RHP Freddy Peralta. June 1st is a target time for the Mets to either get back into the race or move the soon-to-be free agent. Peralta and Craig Counsell share a mutual bond," Levine wrote on X .

"A Cubs source told me they have talked to many teams about pitching, but have not talked directly about Freddy Peralta with the Mets," Levine wrote. It's very possible that teams start making trades a bit earlier than expected, so I'd like to see the Cubs get in the mix and attempt to figure something out sooner rather than later if these guys aren't available any longer.
