Will Baltimore deal Pete?

Ex-Mets star Pete Alonso not expected to be traded by Orioles despite slow start originally appeared on The Sporting News . Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here . Former New York Mets slugger Pete Alonso is with the Baltimore Orioles , an intriguing landing spot for a player who seemed destined to play in New York for his entire career.

From what Alonso has said in interviews recently, there definitely seems to have been some sort of problem between him and David Stearns, which resulted in the big-time home run hitter taking a deal with an American League squad. Alonso, who hasn't been horrible this year, is hitting . 214 with eight home runs.

He had a slow start to the campaign, but outside of that, he has been rather decent. Once his power numbers get going, this should be another 25-30-plus home run year for the Florida native. However, with the Orioles struggling as much as they have to start the year, sitting at 19-23 and already in fourth place in the American League East, eight games back of the Tampa Bay Rays , some are starting to believe that Alonso could be traded.

Despite that reality, Sports Illustrated doesn't expect that to be the case during this deadline. โ€œAlonso recently signed a five-year, $155 million contract with the Orioles in December after spending the first seven years of his career with the New York Mets. The Orioles lost 87 games last year and are 17-21 to start the 2026 season, nine games back of the New York Yankees in the American League East.
