Giants Power Past Dodgers in Series Opener

Yahoo Sports

The San Francisco Giants delivered on their offense, securing a 9-3 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers in series opener.

The San Francisco Giants opened their highly anticipated series against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday night with an impressive 9-3 victory, fueled by timely hitting and another solid outing from rookie right-hander Trevor McDonald. Facing Dodgers starter Roki Sasaki, the Giants wasted little time getting on the board. Rafael Devers provided the early momentum in the second inning, launching a solo home run to center field to give San Francisco an early lead.

For Devers, the performance was another encouraging sign amid what has been a slow start to his season. Despite remaining near the top of the lineup, the star slugger has struggled to consistently produce at his usual level offensively. However, the Giants continue to rely heavily on Devers as one of the foundational bats within their lineup, making performances like Monday’s especially important moving forward.

Devers finished the night 2-for-3 with the home run and continued showing signs of progress offensively. McDonald Keeps Giants Competitive With Logan Webb currently on the 15-day Injured List, the Giants once again turned to Trevor McDonald, who remained in the rotation after an impressive outing against the San Diego Padres on May 4 in which he earned his first career victory. McDonald did not have his sharpest outing Monday, but he managed to keep San Francisco in control against one of baseball’s most dangerous lineups.

The rookie pitched 5 1/3 innings, allowing nine hits and three earned runs while striking out four and walking two. He threw 101 pitches, including 58 strikes. While the Dodgers generated plenty of contact, McDonald avoided a complete collapse and continued giving the Giants valuable innings during a stretch in which the rotation is missing its ace in Webb.
