Hometown Hero: Joe Adams, Barrington

BRISTOL, RI (WPRI) — This week’s Cardi’s Furniture & Mattresses Hometown Sports Hero is Joe Adams. The Barrington Senior returned from injury to set a new Personal Best of 220’01 in the Hammer Throw at this weekend’s Sgt. Brian St.

Germain Invititational, a ten foot increase from his previous PR and one of the best throws in the Nation this Spring. “He’s incredible,” said Barrington Throws Coach Robyn McFetters. “He started, he was Freshman State Champion, it was a great experience.

I pretty much knew at that point that he was going to do great things. He’s super coachable, so I knew right from Freshman year that he was going to be good. ” His success through the seasons earning Adams a scholarship to Princeton University, where he will become the fourth Eagle to throw for the Tigers.

“I want to compete at a very high level, and Princeton was a place that would offer me both incredible athletic and academic opportunities, as well,” Adams said. “All the people that are there now are some of the most incredible people that I have ever met, and like just that environment seems super uplifting and it’s something I’m really excited to join into. ” Adams is hoping to keep gaining feet in the Hammer, as he chases the school record.

The more distance he gains, the more points he can score for the Eagles who are chasing their second Outdoor State Title in the last three seasons. “Totally, I mean every single person on our team is a really good competitor and we all love the sport, every Meet we’re pushing each other constantly,” Adams said. “We’re just excited to keep on pushing forward.
