Goshen City FC opens season with 4-0 home rout
GOSHEN — Goshen City FC held its season-opener at the Goshen College Soccer Complex over the weekend. Welcoming in the Holland Rovers, Goshen City used a 3-0 halftime lead and cruised to a 4-0 blanking of their Midwest Premier League Great Lakes West rivals. Welcoming in the Holland Rovers, Goshen City used a 3-0 halftime lead and cruised to a 4-0 blanking of their Midwest Premier League Great Lakes West rivals. GCFC received goals from Tito Sanchez, Ike Fernandez, Julian Saldivar and Westview alum Teague Misner.
It’s the second goal for Sanchez and Misner who also scored goals during the team’s three-game Amateur Cup slate. With the win, Goshen City begins the season 1-0-0 and at the top of the division. They are the reigning Great Lakes champs.
AROUND THE LEAGUE The only other team in the Great Lakes West to play over the weekend was Fort Wayne’s 1927 SC. The club defeated Grand Rapids SC 3-0. Both teams finished in the bottom half of the division standings last season.
