Spurs were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw in Monday's game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, leaving them just two points above West Ham United in the relegation zone. The home side did, however, have a strong penalty shout deep into added time when James Maddison went down under a challenge from Lukas Nmecha.

Referee Jarred Gillett dismissed the appeals, though a VAR review did follow. Ultimately, however, the original decision stood. Providing clarification via their Match Centre X account, the Premier League stated: "The referee's call of no penalty to Tottenham Hotspur was checked and confirmed by VAR – with it deemed that Nmecha played the ball.
